The Carrier HT680054 Transformer is an essential OEM component designed for high-reliability voltage step-down in residential and light commercial HVAC systems. This 40VA control transformer efficiently converts a 120V primary voltage to a stable 24V secondary output, providing the necessary Class 2 power for integrated furnace control boards, 24V contactor coils, and electronic thermostats. Built to meet rigorous factory specifications, the HT680054 ensures seamless compatibility with Carrier, Bryant, and Payne equipment, maintaining the strict electrical current requirements necessary to prevent control circuit brownouts.

As a veteran-grade HVAC replacement part, this unit serves as the direct authorized successor for legacy part numbers including HT01BC116 and 322666-701. Its compact frame allows for straightforward mounting within standard electrical enclosures, while the color-coded lead wires (White Common/Black 120V Primary; Blue/Red 24V Secondary) simplify field wiring. Utilizing a genuine Carrier transformer protects sensitive logic boards from the voltage fluctuations often associated with generic alternatives, ensuring long-term operational stability for the entire 24V control string.

Key Benefits for Technicians:
  • Direct OEM Compatibility: Engineered as the exact replacement for HT01BC116 and 322666-701, ensuring zero-mod fitment in Carrier-built air handlers and furnaces.
  • Reliable 40VA Rating: Provides up to 1.6 Amps of continuous secondary current, sufficient for powering modern 24V HVAC controls and multi-stage ignition systems.
  • Broad Application Range: Validated for use across various model families, including 58CVA, 58STX, and PG9MAB series units.
  • Industrial-Grade Insulation: Features Class B insulation to withstand the high ambient temperatures found within furnace burner compartments.
Common Questions:

What causes a 40VA transformer to fail prematurely?
Most failures are secondary to a downstream short circuit. Always check for a grounded "C" wire, a pitted contactor coil, or a shorted gas valve solenoid before installing the Carrier HT680054. It is highly recommended to install a 3-amp inline fuse on the secondary side to protect the new transformer from repetitive high-amp draws.

Can I use this to replace a 50VA transformer?
No. While a 50VA transformer can replace a 40VA unit, you should never downsize. Verify the total VA load of your accessories (UV lights, humidifiers, zone dampers) to ensure the 40VA capacity of the HT680054 is not exceeded.

Is this compatible with 208/230V systems?
No. This specific model is a 120V to 24V transformer. Applying 240V to the primary side will result in immediate coil failure and potential damage to the control board.

  • I would like to verify that HT680054 is the correct transformer for my Carrier furnace 58SSC075-JC. What is the country of origin and manufacturer for this transformer? And, I would like to understand what is the difference between HT680054 and HT680056. Thank you.

The original number was a HT01BC116. I don’t see why you could not use the HT680056 as well. They are made in China now.
