The Copeland 510-0049-00 is a 3/8" active water regulating valve with a 70 to 260 psi pressure range, built to control condenser water flow on water-cooled refrigeration and air conditioning systems. It is a bronze-body, spring-loaded, pressure-actuated valve with a 3/8" female pipe connection for the water line and a copper capillary tube ending in a flare nut that taps into the refrigerant side of the system to sense head pressure.

Here is how it works in the field: as discharge pressure rises, the pressure signal travelling down the capillary pushes on the pressure element and opens the valve further, sending more cooling water through the condenser. When head pressure falls, the spring closes the valve back down and saves water. The adjusting stem on the spring housing sets the opening pressure anywhere in the 70/260 psi range, so you can tune head pressure for the refrigerant and condenser you are working on. When a regulating valve sticks or leaks, you see it as high head pressure, water running constantly, or hunting head pressure. This is a Copeland OEM part number, made in the USA.

Key Benefits

  • Head Pressure Control: Modulates condenser water to hold head pressure steady as load and water temperature change.
  • Adjustable 70/260 psi Range: The adjusting stem lets you set the valve to the system’s required opening pressure.
  • Saves Water: Closes down when the compressor is off or head pressure is low instead of letting condenser water run.
  • Direct Capillary Connection: The pre-formed capillary with flare nut connects to the system’s refrigerant-side pressure tap.

Common Questions

  • What size are the connections? The water connection is 3/8", and the pressure signal comes in through the capillary tube with a flare nut.
  • What pressure range does this valve cover? The 510-0049-00 is an active water regulating valve with a 70/260 psi range. Choose a valve whose range covers the head pressure you need to hold for your refrigerant.
  • What does it look like when it is failing? High head pressure, high discharge temperature, water that will not shut off, or head pressure that swings up and down are the usual signs of a water regulating valve that is stuck, leaking, or out of adjustment.
