The Schneider Electric (Barber Colman) TK-1001-600 Aspirated Pneumatic Thermostat is a direct-acting, 2-pipe, heating room thermostat designed for proportional control of pneumatic valves, dampers and similar devices. What sets the -600 apart from the standard TK-1001 is the aspirated design. An aspirated thermostat uses a small stream of the supply air to pull room air across the sensing element, so the bimetal reads actual room temperature instead of the wall behind the wall box. That is why these units are chosen for walls that run warm or cold, exposed locations and tamper-resistant installations. Direct acting means the branch pressure rises as the room warms.

The extra air flow shows up in the numbers. The TK-1001-600 has an air consumption of 41.5 scim (11.3 mL/s) and an air capacity of 56 scim (15.3 mL/s), compared with 13.8 scim and 16 scim for the standard TK-1001, so account for it when you size the air compressor and the mains. Like the rest of the TK-1001 series, it uses a bimetal sensing element, 5/32-inch spring-reinforced plastic tubing with a black main port and a white branch port, and needs clean, oil-free, dry supply air that never exceeds 30 psig. Rated ambient is 40°F to 150°F at 10% to 98% relative humidity, non-condensing.

The aspirated version is dressed differently from the standard stat. It mounts in the AT-509 wall box, which measures about 5 inches high by 3-1/2 inches wide by 2-1/2 inches deep, under a brushed stainless steel cover about 5-1/2 inches high by 4 inches wide, and the cover is secured with #6 spanner-head screws that need the TOOL-015 driver. The factory photo shows the working mechanism: copper-colored linkage on a dark cast base, a white dial wheel, black and white tubing, a foam-gasketed plate carrying molded duct fittings, and loose screws, pins and a small barrel fitting. Order the TK-1001-600 when the old unit is the aspirated stainless-cover type; the standard TK-1001 has no aspirator, the TK-1001-116 has a 13°C to 29°C dial, and the TK-1101-600 is the reverse-acting aspirated counterpart for cooling.

Key Benefits

  • Aspirated sensing: Room air is drawn across the element, so the thermostat responds to air temperature, not wall temperature.
  • Direct-acting heating control: Branch pressure rises with room temperature for 2-pipe heating valves and dampers.
  • Stainless cover, tamper resistant: Brushed stainless steel cover with spanner-head screws for exposed or public spaces.
  • Standard pneumatic hookup: 5/32-inch tubing, black main and white branch ports on the same TK-1001 series layout.

Common Questions

What does aspirated mean on the TK-1001-600?
It means the thermostat moves room air across the sensing element using supply air, so it senses the room, not the wall. That is also why its air consumption is higher, 41.5 scim versus 13.8 scim on the TK-1001.

What does it mount in?
The AT-509 wall box, with a brushed stainless steel cover held by #6 spanner-head screws that require a TOOL-015 driver.

Is the TK-1001-600 heating or cooling?
Heating, direct acting, 2-pipe. The reverse-acting aspirated counterpart is the TK-1101-600.
