The Carrier HB33GQ231 Condenser Fan Motor is a high-performance, OEM replacement motor engineered for residential and light commercial condensing units. Operating at 208-230V with a 1/10 HP rating and a fixed speed of 1100 RPM, this PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motor ensures consistent heat dissipation and system head pressure control. Designed with a 42-frame diameter and a 1/2-inch shaft, this Carrier 1/10 HP motor provides a precise drop-in fit for thousands of Carrier, Bryant, and Payne air conditioning systems.

For technicians in the field, this HVAC condenser motor serves as the direct replacement for HB33GR236, HC33GE236, and HC33GE236A. It features a totally enclosed air-over (TEAO) design and internal thermal protection to prevent winding failure during high-ambient operations. Utilizing a standard 5 MFD / 370V capacitor, the HB33GQ231 motor delivers the necessary starting torque and efficiency to restore factory-spec airflow while maintaining the quiet operation expected by homeowners.

Key Benefits

  • Direct OEM Compatibility: Specifically designed to replace legacy models like the HB33GR236 motor without the need for bracket modifications or shaft trimming.
  • Enhanced Thermal Protection: Integrated internal overload protection safeguards the motor from overheating during peak summer loads.
  • Reliable Performance: Engineered for continuous air-over operation, ensuring the motor survives the harsh environments found in outdoor condensing units.
  • Optimized Efficiency: Precision-wound to maintain a steady 1100 RPM, preventing the system hunting and airflow imbalances common with universal alternatives.

Common Questions

  • What is the correct rotation for this motor? The HB33GQ231 is a clockwise (CW) rotation motor, though some technical documentation indicates multi-directional capability depending on specific wiring configurations. Always verify rotation against the fan blade pitch.
  • Should I replace the capacitor at the same time? Yes, it is a standard trade practice to replace the 5 MFD running capacitor when installing a new 1/10 HP condenser motor to prevent premature failure of the new windings.
  • Which HVAC brands is this motor compatible with? This is a factory-authorized part for Carrier, Bryant, and Payne brands, fitting popular models like the 24ABB3 and GA4SAN series.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I am a diy person but after some research and hands-on checking I believe that my motor is dead. It will run if I give the blade a little push each time the compressor comes on. Obviously not very handy. Hard to tell whether that means the motor or the capacitor is bad. Any help would be appreciated. Also, if I do have to install a new motor how much would two-day shipping cost? Thanks for your consideration, Richard

It could be the motor or / and the capacitor. We would replace the capacitor first then lubricate the motor to see if that fix the problem since that is the cheapest way to start. You can check 2 day shipping charge on the motor by just adding the motor to the shopping cart and enter your shipping zip code.
