The Maxitrol R400Z-1/2 Regulator is a high-performance zero governor gas regulator engineered specifically for technical air-gas mixing systems and proportional premixing applications. As the direct replacement for the legacy R400SZ-1/2, this unit features a 1/2" NPT connection and utilizes a balanced valve design to provide exceptional outlet pressure stability despite fluctuating inlet pressures. Built with a rugged aluminum housing, it is rated for a 1/2 PSI max inlet pressure (CSA certified) and has been Maxitrol tested for operation up to 1 PSI. This regulator is an essential component for technicians configuring nozzle mixers, mixing tees, and industrial burner flow controls. Its zero governor functionality ensures precise delivery of natural, Lily-mixed, or LP gases, operating effectively in temperatures ranging from -40° to 205°F. For contractors, the R400Z-1/2 offers a compact footprint without sacrificing the flow capacity required for demanding commercial combustion environments.

Key Benefits for Contractors:

  • Enhanced Stability: The balanced valve construction minimizes the effect of inlet pressure variations, ensuring a consistent air-gas ratio.
  • Updated Specifications: Serves as the official successor to the R400SZ-1/2, maintaining compatibility while improving internal performance.
  • Extreme Versatility: Fully compatible with natural gas, manufactured gas, mixed gases, and LP gas-air mixtures.
  • Reliable Pilot Control: Precision-engineered to handle very low flow rates, making it suitable for standing pilot applications.
  • Durable Construction: Heavy-duty aluminum die-cast housing provides long-term resilience in mechanical rooms and industrial settings.

Common Questions:

Can the R400Z-1/2 be mounted in any orientation?
No, for proper zero governor operation and to ensure the counter spring functions correctly, this model must be installed in an upright position only.

Is this regulator suitable for lock-up service?
No, the RZ series is not designed for dead-end lock-up service. It is intended for flow control in burners and mixing systems where constant flow is managed.

What is the difference between the CSA and Maxitrol pressure ratings?
While the CSA certification covers the unit up to 1/2 PSI, Maxitrol tech specs confirm the internal components are tested to handle up to 1 PSI for specific industrial applications.

Safety Note: This product must be installed by a licensed gas fitter to ensure proper operation and compliance with safety standards.

Ask a Question
  • Good morning, I am trying to replace an original part on Onan generator, is this Maxitrol R400z 1/2 regulator the same as original Maxitrol R400zf - 1/2 regulator? Looks the same except top housing is sealed on current regulator. I look forward to your reply.

The ZF was a specially made OEM regulator. We don’t have a cross and not sure what was special about it.
