The Copeland 570-7003-05 Moisture Indicator is the OEM liquid line sight glass with moisture indication for Copeland refrigeration systems. It has a brass body with copper sweat (solder) connection stubs on both ends, a glass viewing port, and a color-coded reference ring marked DRY, CAUTION and WET around a central moisture-sensing element. One look tells you two things: whether the liquid line is running full of clear liquid refrigerant or showing bubbles and flash gas, and whether the moisture content of the system is acceptable.

Moisture is one of the most damaging contaminants in a refrigeration system. It reacts with refrigerant and oil to form acids, corrodes copper and steel, causes copper plating on bearing surfaces and valves, forms sludge, and can freeze at the metering device. The element in the sight glass changes color with moisture level; compare it to the DRY / CAUTION / WET ring with the system running and stable. A reading of CAUTION or WET means the filter drier is saturated and should be replaced, then recheck the indicator after the system has run for several hours. Constant bubbles after the drier point to low charge or a restriction. Install it in the liquid line ahead of the metering device after the drier. Recover the refrigerant, braze with a nitrogen purge, protect the glass and element from heat, then pull a deep vacuum before recharging. Match the sweat connection size to the line size of your original indicator.

Key Benefits

  • Flow and Moisture in One Look: Shows liquid refrigerant flow and moisture condition from a single sight glass.
  • Color-Coded Ring: The DRY, CAUTION and WET reference ring makes the reading unambiguous without a chart.
  • Brass Body, Copper Stubs: Brass construction with sweat connections brazes into copper liquid lines.
  • Protects the Compressor: Early warning of moisture lets you change the filter drier before acid and sludge damage the compressor.

Common Questions

  • How do I read it? Run the system until it is stable, then compare the element color to the DRY / CAUTION / WET ring on the glass.
  • Where is it installed? In the liquid line, after the filter drier and ahead of the metering device.
  • What if it shows WET or CAUTION? Replace the filter drier (and the core if it is a replaceable-core type), then run the system and recheck. Persistent WET readings call for a leak and contamination check.
