The Maxitrol RV52-1/2 Gas Regulator is a specialized appliance regulator engineered with a straight-thru flow design, facilitating high-capacity gas delivery at low inlet pressures. This 1/2" NPT regulator utilizes a unique conical valve design to minimize frictional flow resistance, making it an essential component for natural gas or propane residential and commercial systems like furnaces, boilers, and high-demand water heaters. Delivering a 900,000 BTU capacity, the unit ensures stable and sensitive control with a 3" to 6" WC outlet pressure range. As a non-lockup type regulator, it is designed for single-appliance main burner applications rather than line pressure regulation. Field technicians should note that precisely the same specifications apply to the CSA-stamped version, ensuring full code compliance for cCSAus requirements. The aluminum construction supports multi-positional mounting, though an upright position is recommended when utilizing specific vent limiting devices for indoor installations.

Key Benefits:

  • Straight-Thru-Flow Technology: Conical valve design provides superior regulation with minimal pressure drop even at high flow rates.
  • High BTU Rating: Rated for up to 900,000 BTU/hr (900 ft³/hr), making it suitable for high-demand industrial and commercial appliances.
  • Multi-Positional Mounting: Compact RV52 series housing allows for flexible installation in space-constrained manifold configurations.
  • Universal Fuel Compatibility: Fully suitable for natural gas, LP gas, and mixed gas-air systems.
  • Durable Aluminum Body: Rugged, corrosion-resistant housing designed for an ambient temperature range of -40° to 205° F.

Common Questions:

Can the RV52-1/2 be used as a line pressure regulator?
No, this is a non-lockup appliance regulator. It is intended for use at the burner manifold and should not be used as a line regulator ahead of other low-pressure controls.

Does this regulator require an external vent line?
When installed indoors, local codes typically require venting to the outdoors unless an approved Maxitrol vent limiter (such as the 12A04 or 12A06) is utilized.

Is there a difference between the RV52-1/2 and the RV52-1/2-CSA?
They are technically identical in performance and construction; the CSA suffix simply confirms it carries the official certification stamp for specific regulatory jurisdictions.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • I recently had a new gas furnace installed.. Maytag M120 (MGC2TN060D24B1). There seems to be too much gas pressure as the flame rolls over almost everytime it ignites. Sounds like a small explosion. Can thnis or similar regulator be used to reduced the pressure?

If it is a new gas furnace we suggest having someone to come by and check it / file a warranty claim for you. Please contact Maytag for details. Once you install another regulator not the same as the original one you will void your warranty on this new furnace.
